New Zealand’s New Business Investor Visa: A Gateway for Global Entrepreneurs

shares

The Business Investor Visa is a bold step by the New Zealand Government to strengthen its economy through direct business investment and job creation.

New Zealand is opening its doors wider to experienced investors with the introduction of the Business Investor Visa, a new pathway designed to grow the economy and attract international business talent. This marks the closure of the Entrepreneur Work Visa and the start of a more focused visa option for those ready to invest and actively run businesses in New Zealand.

Unlike the previous Entrepreneur Work Visa, the new visa offers clear, fast-tracked pathways to residence for those who meet the investment and business operation requirements.

Why the Business Investor Visa Matters

New Zealand is consistently ranked as one of the best places to do business, offering:

  • A stable economy and transparent business environment

  • Strong ties to Asia-Pacific markets

  • A culture of innovation and entrepreneurship

  • High quality of life for families

The Business Investor Visa 2025 is your opportunity to join a thriving business community while building a secure pathway to residence.

Two Investment Pathways to Choose From

From November 2025, applications will open for the Business Investor Work Visa, with two options available:

  1. Work-to-Residence Pathway (3 years)

    • Invest NZD $1 million in an existing business

    • Actively run the business for three years

    • Become eligible to apply for residence

  2. Fast-Track Residence Pathway (12 months)

    • Invest NZD $2 million in an existing business

    • Actively run the business for one year

    • Apply for residence in just 12 months

Applicants can either buy a business outright or acquire at least 25% ownership, as long as the minimum investment thresholds are met.

Both options also allow you to include your partner and dependent children, making this a family-friendly immigration pathway.
